Joe Hedstrom, the 6-foot-10 center from Hopkins (MN) High School, committed to Wisconsin on Wednesday, per Ryan James of PrepHoops. Hedstrom took an official visit to Wisconsin last month (Sept. 29).

“I think it would be nice to stay home close to my family who can support me and come to when we play the Gophers,” Hedstrom told BadgerNation. “I really bought into Wisconsin’s vision for me. They’re graduate five senior big men so it’ll just be me and [Nathan] Reuvers as far as size goes. You still have to compete but the path seems a little clear.”

According to 247Sports, Hedstrom is ranked as the No. 328 player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 34 center in the class. He joins Tyler Herro as the second commit in the Badgers 2018 class.

Hedstrom chose Wisconsin over schools such as Boise State, Utah, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Cleveland State, Columbia, Denver, and Loyola Marymount, among others. In addition to his Wisconsin visit, Hedstrom also took official visits to Boise State (Sept. 22) and Utah (Oct. 6).

The Badgers are also in the running for 2018 power forward Taylor Currie, who recently de-committed from Michigan. “I trust the heck out Coach [Greg] Gard and Coach [Joe] Krabbenhoft, what they can do and their program speaks for itself. They are one of the best big-men developers in the country. I really just bought into that.”

Hedstrom first received an offer from Wisconsin in August. He is reportedly on a 4-for-5 offer, which means he’d be a walk-on in his first year before earning a scholarship for his final four years.
