Hameir Wright, the 6-foot-7 small forward from The Albany (NY) Academy and the Albany City Rocks, announced his commitment to Washington on Saturday while on an unofficial visit.

Wright has signed his NLI and will reclassify to the Class of 2017 per ESPN. He considered attending prep school for the 2017-18 season but instead will join the Huskies in the fall.

“First off, I’d like to thank my close friends and family, especially my mother, for sacrificing so much and giving me endless support throughout my life,” said Wright in a statement released on Twitter. “I’d also like to thank City Rocks for giving me the chance to showcase my talents the past 4 years and The Albany Academies and Coach Fruscio for helping me develop academically and athletically during my high-school career.”

Before announcing his intentions to join the Class of 2017, Wright was ranked by 247Sports as the No. 59 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 player from the state of New York. He joins Nahziah CarterJaylen Nowell, and Nate Pryor as the fourth commit in Washington’s 2017 class.

Wright chose Washington over schools such as Miami, Michigan State, Syracuse, Villanova, Cincinnati, UConn, Georgetown, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, SMU, and West Virginia, among others.

“Lastly, I’d like to thank the abundance of high-major programs who have extended scholarships and interest in me during this process,” said Wright. “However, I am honored to announce my commitment to Coach [Mike] Hopkins and THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON to continue my academic and athletic career!”
