Wake Forest Lands 2018 Four-Star Forward Isaiah Mucius

Isaiah Mucius, the 6-foot-8 small forward from Brewster (NH) Academy, announced his commitment to Wake Forest on Monday in a video released via Twitter. His commitment comes just a few days after taking an official visit to Wake Forest (Sept. 15).

“First off, I’d like to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play the game of basketball and blessing me with all these skills,” said Mucius in the video. “Second, I’d like to thank my family and friends for having my back through all the tough times and good times. Thirdly, I’d like to thank all the college coaches that recruited me throughout the process and for believing in me and my talents. Without further ado, I will be attending Wake Forest University.

According to 247Sports, Mucius is ranked as the No. 68 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 1 player from the state of New York. He joins Jaylen Hoard and Sharone Wright Jr. as the third commit in the Demon Deacons’ 2018 class.

This past summer, Mucius announced his transfer to Brewster Academy from Saint James (MD) School. He spoke with D1VISION in July about his transfer.

“We just knew that Coach [JasonSmith and the program has brought high-level guys to the college and the NBA every school year. Moving from St. James to [Brewster] will help me as an athlete, on and off the court. They will help me get better and prepare myself for the college level,” said Mucius. “They play college rules, college referees, college everything, so their whole preparation is for college. I also think that they play in one of the best leagues in the country, to be honest. You’re playing against grown men every day so it’ll just prepare you more. That’ll be a key factor and it will help me get me an extra edge over guys at regular high schools.”

Mucius, who chose Wake Forest over schools such as Rutgers, Temple, UConn, and Xavier, spoke about Wake Forest back in July, as he said, “They have a really good coaching staff with Danny Manning and Randolph Childress. Between them, they have 40-plus years in the league, so they know what they’re doing. It’s the ACC so it’s a top conference. They’re playing against the top teams in the country, night in and night out. It’s a really good up and coming program.”

Before committing to Wake Forest, Mucius also took an official visit to Xavier (Sept. 8) but ultimately decided to commit to Danny Manning and Wake Forest. Mucius’ commitment gives Wake Forest the No. 5 recruiting class in 2018 per 247Sports.
