Kody Stattman, the 6-foot-7 wing from Queensland, Australia, announced his commitment to Tony Bennett and the Virginia Cavaliers on Monday via Twitter.

“I chose it because it’s a great program and full of great coaches,” Stattman told Scout. “Also I wanted to be challenged by going to the ACC and playing the best of the best.”

This summer, playing for Australia in the FIBA u17 Oceania Championship from July 10th through July 15, Stattman averaged 31 points per game and began to receive global attention. Then, at the Adidas Nations in August, Stattman averaged 14.5 points a game, while connecting on 22 of 51 three-point attempts in six games.

Stattman was recruited by schools such as New Mexico, Missouri, and Stanford, before ultimately deciding on the Cavaliers. He is the first commit in Virginia’s 2018 class.

Virginia is also in the running for many other 2018 prospects including but not limited to Jared Butler, Noah Locke, Andrew Nembhard, and KJ Hymes, among others.

This season, Virginia will bring in a two-man recruiting class of Marco Anthony and Francesco Badocchi, which gave them a top-100 recruiting class in the country.
