Naseem Gaskin, the 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Bishop O’Dowd (CA) High School, announced his commitment to Utah on Wednesday via Twitter.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for blessing me with the ability to be in this position in my life,” said Gaskin in a statement released via Twitter. “This is truly a dream come true. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and friends for guiding me and supporting me throughout this tough but amazing process.”

According to 247Sports, Gaskin is ranked as the No. 387 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 48 player from the state of California. He joins JUCO guard Charles Jones II as the second commit in the Utes’ 2018 class.

“To be the best, you have to compete against the best,” said Gaskin. “With that being said, I have decided to commit to the University of Utah. #GoUtes #RunningUtes 🔴⚪️.”

Before committing to Utah, Gaskin narrowed his list down to Montana and Utah, both of which he officially visited. He also held offers from San Francisco, Boise State, and Nevada, among others. He also had interest from schools such as Memphis, UCLA, USC, Wyoming, St. Mary’s, and Santa Clara, among others.

“I need to gain some weight but they have a great strength program,” Gaskin told Scout about Utah. “I feel like I can be a really good defender in their system and I want to be an elite defender in the Pac-12. They’ll help me work on my jump shot and get me more consistent.”
