Charles Jones II, the 6-foot point guard from the College of Southern Idaho, announced his commitment to Utah on Thursday via Twitter. Jones will sit out the 2017-18 season and be eligible for the 2018-19 season.

“I want to play against the best competitors each game and the Pac-12 is a perfect fit for me,” said Jones in a statement via Twitter. “With that being said, I’m going to continue my basketball and educational career at the University of Utah.”

As a freshman last season at Southern Idaho, Jones averaged 15.4 points and nearly 2.0 assists per game, earning first-team All Region honors. He is the first commit in Utah’s 2018 class and chose Utah over schools such as Utah State and Oregon State.

Although he is the first commit in Utah’s 2018 class, the Utes are in the running for players such as Bryce Hamilton who included Utah in his top six schools last week. and Riley Battin, who has the Utes in his top four and will take his official visit later this month (Sept. 15).
