USA Basketball released their final U19 World Cup Team roster that will compete in the FIBA U19 World Cup. The team will compete in the FIBA U19 World Championship from July 1-9 in Cairo, Egypt.

For the first time, John Calipari will lead a USA Basketball National team into competition assisted by Colorado head coach Tad Boyle and Wake Forest head man Danny Manning.

The twelve-player roster consist of five gold medalist from this past summer and is led by Hamidou Diallo, an incoming freshman that many thought could have gone in the late first or early second round of this years NBA Draft.

USA BASKETBALL U19 WORLD CUP ROSTER:

  • Hamidou Diallo – Kentucky
  • Kevin Huerter – Maryland
  • Carsen Edwards – Purdue
  • Josh Okogie – Georgia Tech
  • Payton Pritchard – Oregon
  • P.J. Washington – Kentucky
  • Austin Wiley – Auburn
  • Louis King – Hudson Catholic (NJ)
  • Romeo Langford – New Albany (IN)
  • Brandon McCoy – Cathedral Catholic (CA)
  • Immanuel Quickley – John Carroll (MD)
  • Cameron Reddish – Westtown (PA)

“This is a really hard process,” said Calipari in a release. “But it wasn’t just me selecting these guys, USA Basketball is involved. This was done by committee, and it went back and forth. Everybody was giving opinions. We went to midnight and we still couldn’t make the final decision, we had to sleep on it.”

“Every player on this team can play different positions and has different abilities,” Calipari continued. “Whether they’re a point guard and a scorer or whether they’re wing and a point guard, or a wing and a power player. We only took two true bigs, which is kind of dangerous. But, we decided that if we had to, we could go small and go zone. We could do it offensively and if they didn’t have a real big guy, we’d just go, ‘P.J., you just guard the guy. We’re going to go pick-and-rolls, inside pick-and-rolls and slips and you’re going to go play like a three anyway.”

The team will continue to practice through June 25 before departing for Egypt.

Calipari took Thursday night off to enjoy time at the NBA draft where three of his former players were selected in the first round. Get the complete draft update here.
