Trey Wertz, a 6-foot-5 combo guard from Providence Day (NC) School has announced his commitment to Santa Clara via Twitter.

“First, I would like to thank God for putting me in the position I am in today. Without him none of this would be possible. I want to thank so many for their support over the years. I don’t want to miss anyone-you know who you are. Thanks to everyone who believed in me, pushed me, and encouraged me on and off the court,” Wertz stated. “In particular I want to thank my mentor and coach, Coach Muggsy, my high school coach, Coach Field and the rest of the Chargers staff.”

According to 247Sports composite ranking, Wertz is the No. 289 overall player for the Class of 2018 and the No. 16 player in the state of North Carolina. Wertz and five-star Kansas commit Devon Dotson have a lethal backcourt at Providence Day School

Thanks to Mrs. G along with all the rest of the PD faculty. Thanks to my family for always supporting me in everything I do. I am grateful for the offers from many great institutions and wish their programs continued success. The decision was not easy, but I am humbled to announce my commitment to Santa Clara University. Go Broncos.”

Wertz on why he chose Santa Clara, “Santa Clara give me an exceptional opportunity to blend an Ivy-like education with an outstanding sports program under the leadership of coach [Herb] Sendek and his proven staff and a chance to achieve my dream. The school’s commitment to social justice and location in the sunny Silicon Valley are the cherry on top.”

Wertz chose Santa Clara over schools such as Boston College, Vanderbilt, Princeton, Missouri, UPenn, Temple, and Harvard.
