Jeremiah Tilmon Requests Release From Illinois

Following the firing of Illinois head coach John Groce last month, four-star center Jeremiah Tilmon announced his decommitment from the Illini on Wednesday via Instagram.

Tilmon, the 6-foot-10 center,  is ranked by 247Sports as the #29 player in the Class of 2017 and the top player in the state of Illinois.

“Thank you University of Illinois athletics for understanding my position as a future student-athlete that signed to play for Coach [John] Groce but has requested release from NLI since coaching changes,” said Tilmon on Instagram. “My family and I feel it’s only fair that we hear all opportunities and not be stuck in one situation. We will wait patiently on the release from the NLI. Illinois will always remain an option because of my ongoing relationship with Coach [Jamall] Walker but this is my future and I need to be certain before I come to campus in June.”

Prior to his commitment to Illinois, Tilmon was also considering Michigan State, North Carolina, Texas and Kansas.

Following Missouri’s signing of Michael Porter Jr., there has been speculation of Tilmon committing to the Tigers.
