Texas has emerged as a legitimate landing spot for McDonald’s All-American wing Brian Bowen, this according to a report from CBS Sports Jon Rothstein.

Just five days ago Shaka Smart and the Longhorns landed potentially their best recruit since Kevin Durant when Mohamed Bamba pledged to Texas over the likes of Kentucky and Duke.

The emergence of Bowen as a legitimate candidate would bolster a top five class into serious Big 12 contenders. The La Lumiere (IN) five-star wing has continued to hold out on an announcement.

During Bowen’s recruitment, multiple teams have surfaced as a possible landing spot. Michigan State, Arizona, Creighton and DePaul have all pushed for the top spot on the 247Sports CrystalBall. Michigan State and DePaul are the current leaders with 25% of the vote.

DePaul made a significant move due with the hiring of former La Lumiere head coach Shane Heirman. A hire that has already paid off in the commitment of La Lumiere point guard Tyger Campbell who also made the decision to reclass up to 2018.

The addition of Bowen to a surging Texas team would be a huge get and maybe the biggest surprise since Kevin Knox declared for Kentucky.

So what does Bowen bring to the court? Here’s some insight from ESPN on Bowen’s game.

“Bowen is a big and skilled wing who is full of upside. He has become a somewhat prolific scorer from all three levels on the floor. From a results standpoint he is extremely effective and efficient. From the catch and shoot three point shot as well as the one dribble pull-up. He can put the ball on the floor going in either direction with outstanding perimeter footwork, and is a virtually ambidextrous scorer inside the paint with his floater game.”

As of this writing, no timeline has been set for Bowen’s announcement. Wednesday May 24th may be a key date for Bowen. Rosters for the 2017-18 season become much clearer as players finalize their NBA decisions.

A Bowen to Texas commitment would push the Longhorns 2017 class past UCLA and Arizona into the third spot nationally.
