Talen Horton-Tucker, the 6-foot-5 small forward from Simeon (IL) Career Academy, will make his college decision on Thursday at 6:30 pm central time at his high school. Horton-Tucker, who cut his list to three on Sunday, broke down each school for D1VISION in advance of his decision.

Iowa State: “I’ve had a relationship with them for the longest out of the three schools that I’ve had now. When they first started talking to me, it was early in my freshman year. Just having a relationship with them has been great.

Xavier: It’s a great opportunity to be able to come in and continue what Trevon [Bluiett] and JP [Macura] already started. Being able to come in with the guys they have and possibly go to the tournament would be a great opportunity.

Illinois: It’s my home state. The fan support there is great. I have a relationship with coach [Brad] Underwood and he’s a great coach. He’s a great person who’s done a lot.”

According to 247Sports, Horton-Tucker is ranked as the No. 109 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 4 player from the state of Illinois. He took official visits to Xavier (Sept. 22), Iowa State (Oct. 13), and Illinois (Oct. 20). He also visited Georgia Tech but is no longer considering them. He spoke about what appealed to him most about each visit:

Illinois Visit: “Pretty much just the support that I got from everyone there. I saw everything that I didn’t see when I went on my unofficial visit. It was nice and I liked it a lot. I wanted to check out each school and that’s why I kept the schools that I kept in.

Iowa State Visit: “It was good, just being around those guys at Iowa State, who I’d be there with is just great. It’s nice to see who I have to be around when I go there.

Xavier Visit: “Just being able to see what I could do when I come in. They talked a lot about how they let their guards play and how I’d fit well in their system.”

After committing to Iowa State earlier this month, George Conditt spoke with D1VISION about the possibility of joining forces with Horton-Tucker. “It would be great to have Talen Horton-Tucker with us,” said Conditt. “If he commits to Iowa State it would help us a lot. He’s a great player and a great friend of mine, so I’m going to respect his decision, just like everyone respected mine.”

Horton-Tucker also confirmed to D1VISION that he will be signing during the early-signing period in November.
