Syracuse Lands 2018 Point Guard Jalen Carey

Jalen Carey, the 6-foot-3 point guard from Immaculate Conception (NY) High School, announced his commitment to Syracuse on Wednesday in avideo released via Twitter. He took an official visit to Syracuse last month (Sept. 8).

“From Harlem to Immaculate Conception, a lot went into getting here today,” said Carey in the video. “Thanks to God, my family, coaches, and friends I was able to get to this moment. I have two outstanding options but I can only choose one, and that is Syracuse University.”

According to 247Sports, Carey is ranked as the No. 54 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 4 player from the state of New York. He joins Darius Bazley and Buddy Boeheim as the third commit in the Orange’s 2018 class. Syracuse also has a 2019 commit in Brycen Goodine.

Carey, who named a final six in August, eventually cut his list down to two schools before choosing Syracuse over UConn. In addition to his Syracuse official, Carey also took official visits to Miami (Aug. 25) and UConn (Aug. 30).

Carey played on the Nike EYBL summer circuit with the Playaz out of New Jersey. Over the 21 game season, Carey averaged 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals. His scoring average of 18.1 points during the EYBL regular season was good enough for 14th best overall.

At the coveted Peach Jam in early July, Carey averaged 20.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.4 steals per outing. His efforts at Peach Jam earned him a spot on the All-Peach Jam Honorable Mention team.
