Keenan Fitzmorris, the 6-foot-11 center from St. James (KS) Academy, committed to Stanford on Monday per Rivals.com. He took an unofficial visit to Stanford last year (Aug. 8).

“I’ve always known that it’s a great school and a great program with great people,” Fitzmorris told Rivals. “Throughout the recruiting process I was always impressed with the character of the coaches there and it’s the greatest school in the world.”

Fitzmorris will join his sister Audriana Fitzmorris who will be a sophomore on the volleyball team as a Stanford athlete. He will also join Cormac Ryan¬†as the second commit in Stanford’s 2018 class, giving them the No. 25 ranked recruiting class per 247Sports.

“They love my work ethic, my enthusiasm, and my character,” said Fitzmorris. “They also love my potential from everything they’ve told me.”

Fitzmorris chose Stanford over schools such as St. John’s, Texas Tech, and Wichita State. He also received interest from Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Missouri State, among others.

Playing with KC Run GMC on the Under Armour Association Circuit this summer, Fitzmorris has averaged 5.3 points and 3 rebounds per game in 12 games. Through three circuits, KC Run GMC has a 6-6 record and will participate in the UAA Association Finals in Atlanta next week (July 12-15).

“It feels incredible,” said Fitzmorris. “It’s a lot off of my shoulders. It’s bittersweet to end things with so many great coaches that have recruited me. It’s nice to focus on school and basketball this last year.”

According to 247Sports, Fitzmorris is ranked as the No. 145 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 1 player from the state of Kansas. He received a visit from Stanford head coach Jerod Haase last year (Sept. 22).
