Penn State Lands 2018 Point Guard Rasir Bolton

Rasir Bolton Penn State

Rasir Bolton, the 6-foot-3 point guard from Huntington (VA) Prep School, announced his commitment to Penn State on Sunday via Twitter. Bolton took an unofficial visit to Penn State earlier this year (May 30).

“First of all, I’d like to thank all of the schools and coaches who recruited me and [have] shown support over the past few years,” said Bolton in a statement released on Twitter. “My family and I appreciate the opportunities that were offered by several great schools. With that being said… I am proud to say I will be committing to Penn State. #GoNittanyLions.”

According to 247Sports, Bolton is ranked as the No. 186 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 1 player from the state of Virginia. He joins Myles Dread as the second commit in Penn State’s 2018 class. Bolton received an offer from Penn State last year (Aug. 6).

“I felt Penn State was the best fit for me,” Bolton told Blue White Illustrated on Sunday. “Academically they have tons of options for me to choose from, the coaching staff made me their No. 1 priority, and me and Coach Chambers have built a great relationship and have become really close. The opportunity to come in and play in a Power Five conference was always a dream of mine.”

Bolton chose Penn State over schools such as Clemson, VCU, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Hampton, Old Dominion, Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, Richmond, and St. Joseph’s, among others. Penn State is also in the running for 2017 small forward Andre Rafus, who released top five schools earlier this month.

“He chose Penn State to get a great education and life after basketball.  Coach Chambers made him his No. 1 Priority and has shown that throughout the process,” Bolton’s father Ray told D1VISION.  “We believe that their guard oriented style of play benefits Rasir’s skillset.”

Playing with Team Loaded Virginia on the adidas Gauntlett, Bolton has averaged 9.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game through 12 games. He has helped lead Team Loaded to a 10-2 record, which was good for second place on the adidas Gauntlett.

He really clicked and related to guys on the team and he’ll be coming in with a former childhood teammate and friend, Myles Dread,” said Ray Bolton. “We feel he will have the opportunity to come in and be a major contributor and compete for a Big 10 Championships and Final Fours!”

In addition to visiting Penn State, Bolton also took visits to Virginia Tech (Sept. 17), VCU (Sept. 26), Clemson (Oct. 1), South Carolina (Oct. 2), Virginia (Feb. 27), and Pittsburgh (May 21). He took three unofficial visits to Penn State (Sept. 27, Oct. 8, and May 30).
