With few days left before the high school season starts, scouts and experts eyes are directed to the seniors who are fighting to be the best in the nation and to young players who are seeking national recognition. Among the top young prospects in the country is the Italian-American from the class of 2020: Niccolo Mannion.

Nico, a point guard from Pinnacle High School (AZ), is the fastest rising athletes in recent months. Unlike his high school classmates, who played the AAU circuit in the summer, he made his U16 debut in August at Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro.

Mannion’s talents were on full display for the European fans. The Italian team finished a disappointing ninth. Despite that, Mannion finished as the top scorer of the championship, averaging 19.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4 assists (sixth best) in 7 games. In addition to playing well in the championship, Mannion gained some valuable experience for his game.

“I just felt like I could gain from the experience,” Nico told Scout. “With USA I had a good experience with the tryouts but over here I just feel like it’s different basketball.

“It’s a lot different over here than in the states, just the type of basketball,” Nico continued. “It’s a lot higher IQ game.”

After a stellar performance in Europe, Mannion returns to Arizona for his sophomore year. Mannion already holds nineteen D1 offers, including the likes of Arizona, Kansas, UCLA, Oregon, Washington and USC, among others.

With Mannion’s skillset, expect that list to continue to grow as his recruitment continues to progress.
