KJ Hymes, the 6-foot-11 power forward from Hillcrest (AZ) Prep, announced his commitment to Nevada on Wednesday via Twitter, following his first and only official visit last week (Sept. 8).

“I’d like to thank all the schools that put in time to recruit me,” said Hymes in a statement released via Twitter. “Today I’m proud to announce that I’ll be joining the #wolfpack.”

According to 247Sports, Hymes is ranked as the No. 203 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 3 player from the state of Arizona. He is the first commit in the Wolf Pack’s 2018 class. Hymes chose Nevada over schools such as California, Missouri, BYU, Clemson, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Memphis, New Mexico, USC, Virginia, and Washington, among others.

Nevada is also in the running for 2018 guard Bryce Hamilton, who included the Wolf Pack in his top six last month. Although Hymes is the only commit in Nevada’s 2018 class thus far, he gives them the No. 3 ranked recruiting class in the Mountain West Conference.

After losing 2019 five-star Josh Green to IMG (FL) Academy, Hymes will be asked to play a big role for Hillcrest Prep next season for his senior year. He will be playing alongside 2020 Arizona State commit Kyree Walker, 2018 guard Demarius Jacobs, and 2019 Kansas commit Markese Jacobs.

“KJ is a 6-foot-11, skilled player who moves very well for his size,” Hillcrest Prep recruiting coordinator Nick Weaver told D1VISION on Wednesday. “He can score from all three levels and will be a great player in the Mountain West Conference. KJ is a great kid on and off the court and will be successful in anything he does in life. We love having KJ here at Hillcrest Prep.”
