Immanuel Bates, the 6-foot-9 power forward from Fayetteville (NC) Temple Christian Academy, announced his commitment to NC State on Friday at his high school. Bates’ commitment comes just a few days after his second official visit to NC State last weekend (Sept. 8).

“I know we’ve been through a lot over these 17 years and even this last week,” said Bates in his announcement. “I’d like to thank my teammates, last year and this year for pushing me every day to make me better. I’d like to thank my coaches, past and present, and my trainer for pushing me to my full potential. This  has been a very hard decision but I can only go to one school, so I will be attending NC State.”

According to 247Sports, Bates is ranked as the No. 98 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 7 player from the state of North Carolina. He is the first commit in the Wolfpack’s 2018 class. After cutting his list to seven in August, Bates chose NC State over DePaul, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Louisville, South Carolina and Xavier.

Before visiting NC State, Bates took his first official visit to Georgetown earlier this month (Sept. 1). He was originally supposed to visit South Carolina this weekend (Sept. 15) but due to his commitment, that visit was canceled.

In the 2017 class, NC State brought in two late commitments from Braxton Beverly and Lavar Batts. NC State head coach Kevin Keatts, who was hired on March 17, 2017, is entering his first year as head coach, following the firing of former head coach Mark Gottfried.
