2017 Five-Star Center Mitchell Robinson to Visit Kansas

Mitchell Robinson, the former Western Kentucky recruit and five-star center from Chalmette (LA) High School, will unofficially visit Kansas this weekend (Aug. 11) according to Matt Scott of 247Sports.

According to 247Sports, Robinson is ranked as the No. 8 overall player in the Class of 2017 and the No. 1 center in the class. Robinson took an unofficial visit to LSU last week (Aug. 3).

Robinson was granted his release from Western Kentucky last week and can transfer to any school outside of Conference USA. Whether he will be eligible is still to be determined, but most reports believe the big man will be required to sit one year prior to being eligible to play.

Initially committed to Texas A&M, where current Western Kentucky head coach Rick Stansbury was the lead recruiter, Robinson reopened his recruitment when Stansbury took the head coaching job with the Hilltoppers.

On June 22 of last year, Stansbury hired Robinson’s Godfather and former UNC standout, Shammond Williams as an assistant coach. Seven days later Robinson followed, committing to the Hilltoppers and giving Rick Stansbury a Top 10 recruiting class heading into his second year at the helm.

Williams resigned from Western Kentucky on July 3 and soon after it was reported that Robinson had left WKU’s campus.

Since Robinson was enrolled in summer school at Western Kentucky, he would require a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible this season. Kansas has one scholarship remaining for the 2017 class following Jack Whitman‘s decision to leave. The Jayhawks are also in contention for 2018 consensus No. 1 player Marvin Bagley III, who is considering reclassifying to 2017.
