Michigan State Lands 2018 Small Forward Gabe Brown

Gabe Brown Commits

Gabe Brown, the 6-foot-6 small forward from Belleville (MI) High School, announced his commitment to Michigan State on Tuesday via Twitter. Brown’s commitment comes just three days after receiving a scholarship offer from the Spartans.

“Once I was in the meeting [with] Tom Izzo, he offered me a basketball scholarship to play at his school, and I almost broke down crying because I knew I achieved this goal for my dad,” said Brown in a statement released on Twitter. “I knew that I made my dad proud, even though he couldn’t be here.”

Brown joins Thomas Kithier and Foster Loyer as the third commit in Michigan State’s 2018 class. His commitment gives the Spartans the No. 5 recruiting class in 2018 according to 247Sports. He chose Michigan State over schools such as Oakland, UW-Milwaukee, DePaul, Toledo, among others. Brown also received interest from Michigan.

“It’s a perfect fit,” Brown told D1VISION. “I can shoot, score and defend at any level. It fits perfectly. I’ll be doing what Miles Bridges has done but better.”

Playing with The Family Detroit on the Nike EYBL circuit, Brown has averaged 9.2 points on 47.9 percent shooting and 4.2 rebounds per game in 16 games. Brown took an unofficial visit to Michigan State earlier this year (Feb. 26).

“I’m excited about everything,” Brown said. “Literally everything.”
