Michael Porter Jr. Finishes as Consensus Top Player in 2017 Rankings

Michael Porter Jr. MVP

Michael Porter Jr., the 6-foot-10 small forward from Nathan Hale (WA) High School, was named by all four major outlets (Scout, ESPN, Rivals, 247Sports) as the consensus #1 player in the Class of 2017.

This season Porter averaged 36.2 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.2 steals and 2.7 blocks, leading Nathan Hale to an undefeated record and a #1 national ranking. Nathan Hale opted not to participate in the Dick’s Nationals Tournament.

Last month, Porter was named MVP in the McDonald’s All-American Game, with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal in 21 minutes. He was also selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic but was inactive due to a back injury.

Porter is the first player since Andrew Wiggins to finish ranked #1 by all four outlets. Other players ranked in the top ten of all four rankings include Mohamed Bamba, Deandre Ayton, Collin Sexton, Trevon Duval, Wendell Carter, Jaren Jackson, and Mitchell Robinson.

Kentucky guard Hamidou Diallo was included in Scout (#10) and 247Sports’ (#10) rankings but due to his early enrollment at the university was not ranked by ESPN or Rivals.
