Lawson Brothers K.J. and Dedric to Transfer to Kansas

Former Memphis standouts K.J. and Dedric Lawson will transfer to Kansas for the coming year, per a report from Gary Parrish. The two will sit a year then be eligible.

The Lawson brothers took less than a week to decide their next stop, with the public announcement to transfer being made public on April 5.

“While we have enjoyed our tenure here (Memphis), the time has come for us to explore some new opportunities,” the Lawson brothers statement of transfer read. “It is for that reason we are asking for a release from the University of Memphis Men’s Basketball program.”

Between the two, they averaged 31.5 points, 18.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.8 steals and 2.5 blocks in a combined 68.2 minutes per game with McDonald’s All-American Dedric carrying the bulk of that statistical load. The two were responsible for 42.5% of the Tigers total points and 48.6% of their rebounding.

The Lawson have two younger brothers, Memphis East (TN) forward Chandler Lawson is a four-star in the 2019 class, and youngest brother Jonathan who is a member of the 2021 class.
