Vernon Carey Jr., the 6-foot-9 power forward from University (FL) School and the No. 1 player in the Class of 2019 per 247Sports, announced an offer from John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats on Wednesday via Twitter. Calipari offered Carey during a visit to his school on Wednesday.

Michigan State will host Carey for an unofficial visit this weekend (Sept. 23). He currently holds offers from schools such as Kansas, Michigan State, Miami, Baylor, UConn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgetown, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan, North Carolina, TCU, Tennessee, and UCLA, among others.

Carey’s offer comes one day after Kentucky offered 2018 unranked power forward Jaxson Hayes. Other 2019 players to receive an offer from Kentucky includes Scottie Lewis, Bryan Antoine, DJ Jeffries, and James Wiseman.

Playing for Nike Team Florida on the EYBL circuit this past summer, Carey averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Kentucky assistant coach Joel Justus also traveled to Formosa, Argentina over the summer to watch Carey and other top prospects on the USA U16 squad at the FIBA Americas Championship, where they took home a gold medal.

Calipari is also expected to visit top-ranked 2019 center Balsa Koprivica Thursday. Koprivica is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 9 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 2 player from the state of Florida, behind Carey.
