Five-Star Keldon Johnson Announces for Kentucky

Keldon Johnson, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard out of Oak Hill Academy (VA), has committed to Kentucky and head coach John Calipari. Johnson joins five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley as the Wildcats second commit out of the 2018 class, giving Kentucky a nice one-two punch.

Johnson chose the Wildcats over Texas, Maryland and NC State. Kentucky was a late addition in Johnson’s recruitment. Initially it seemed to be a two school race between Texas and Maryland, Kentucky ultimately overcame the entrance to win Johnson’s commitment.

“Keldon brings toughness, competitiveness, strength — and he brings energy,” Scout.com and 247Sports Evan Daniels told SEC Country. “He’s a hard-playing, physical and explosive wing. He looks to drive the ball on offense and he really brings it on the defensive end. This is a pretty good perimeter threat.”

“Immanuel Quickley and Keldon Johnson is a terrific two-man class. Anybody in the country would be thrilled with starting off a class with those guys,” Daniels continued. “If they add [4-star guard] Tyler Herro to that group, I think Kentucky probably leaves the early signing period thrilled with the perimeter they’ve put together.”

Kentucky is still in the hunt for five-star wing Zion Williamson, five-star forward Bol Bol, five-star point guard Darius Garland and as Daniels mentioned, four-star shooting guard Tyler Herro.
