David McCormack, the 6-foot-9 center from Oak Hill (VA) Academy, committed to Kansas on Sunday per ESPN. He later announced his commitment in broadcast with Wavy News 10.

“It came down to their history, my relationship with the players and staff, and their development of their players,” McCormack told D1Vision on Sunday. “I feel I’ll fit in with their offense as a great frontcourt player.”

According to 247Sports, McCormack is ranked as the No. 39 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 player from the state of Virginia. He joins Silvio De Souza as the second commit in the Jayhawks 2018 class. Kansas is also expected to bring back transfers Charlie MooreDedric Lawson, and KJ Lawson who will have to sit out the 2017-18 season due to transfer.

McCormack, who cut his list to six last month, took an unofficial visit to Kansas last month. He took official visits to NC State (Sept. 1) and Xavier (Sept. 8) and planned to visit Oklahoma State (Oct. 13) before committing to KU. He planned to Kansas for Late Night in the Phog (Sept. 29) and it is unclear whether he will still take that visit.

“It’s a great environment. I really enjoyed myself there,” McCormack told D1Vision following his unofficial visit to KU. “They told me how they’re likely losing their top six guys. Billy [Preston] will be gone, Devonte [Graham] will be gone, so I’ll be able to play inside and out. They’ll be able to take advantage of what I can do.”
