Justin Ahrens, the 6-foot-5 small forward from Versailles (OH) High School, named Michigan, Ohio State, Xavier, Dayton, Vanderbilt and Purdue as his top six schools on Monday via Twitter. After initially committing to Ohio State early in his high school career, Ahrens decided to reopen his recruitment following the coaching change in Columbus.

Ahrens broke down each school for D1Vision:

Michigan: “Michigan loves shooters. They win and produce pros.”

Ohio State: “I like a lot about OSU. The coaches are awesome and I could play a lot as a freshman.”

Purdue: “They love shooters, shoot the ball a lot, and play fast. They know how to win and play hard.”

Dayton: “They think I could be someone to come in and build a team around. They think I could be a star there and they could help me get to the NBA.”

Xavier: “They also love shooters, and they are losing their two leading scorers. They think I could come in and score the ball a lot for them.”

Vanderbilt: “It’s in Nashville so that would just be an amazing college experience. The academics are top notch and they have great athletic programs with great coaches.”

According to 247Sports, Ahrens is ranked as the No. 166 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 7 player from the state of Ohio. Ahrens will take an unofficial visit to Ohio State on Tuesday but has not taken any official visits.

I’m setting up some officials not for sure when yet though,” Ahrens told D1Vision. He does not have a timetable yet for when he wants to make his decision.
Despite not having a timetable for his commitment, Ahrens has a clear idea of what he’s looking for in a school. “It needs to feel like home,” said Ahrens. “I need to have a good relationship with the coaches, and I have to fit with the team and their style of play.”
He is currently in that process and says he is in no hurry to make a college decision. Playing with C2K Elite on the Under Armour Circuit, Ahrens averaged 13.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 13 games. C2K Elite finished with a 5-7 record.
