Jontay Porter — the 6-foot-10, 225 pound five-star forward — will move into the 2017 class and play with his brother Michael Porter at Missouri in the coming season, he announced via Twitter.

On why he decided to reclass. “This year is going to be special for Mizzou and I didn’t want to miss out,” Porter said to D1Vision via text.

Porter joins a four-man class that is already ranked as the eighth best in the country. He joins five-star and number one ranked Michael Porter, four-star forward Jeremiah Tilmon, four-star point guard Blake Harris and three-star point guard C.J. Roberts as the fifth member of the 2017 class.

“We’re very excited about Jontay’s decision, which was a big one for him and his family,” Missouri head coach Cuonzo Martin said in a release. “Jontay is certainly a talented basketball player, but his outstanding work in the classroom should not be overlooked. The ability to reclassify requires a serious commitment to your academics. Jontay is a young man who takes pride in being a great teammate and communicator. He has the skill and knowledge of the game to contribute from day one, at both ends of the floor. This is a homecoming for Jontay, who is already extremely familiar with Columbia, and we’re thrilled to have him in the Mizzou Basketball Family.”

If the revised numbers on 247Sports class calculator is correct, the addition of Porter moves Missouri up to number three in the 2017 class rankings, just below Duke. Missouri has held one scholarship spot available in case Porter made the decision to make the jump to 2017.

Porters addition gives Missouri a formidable front court with Michael Porter, the teams second leading scorer and top rebounder in Kevin Puryear, last seasons leading scorer in Jordan Barnett, incoming four-star forward Jeremiah Tilmon and five-star Jontay Porter.

Porter had a breakout season this summer while playing with Mokan Elite on the Nike EYBL. Over the 19 games season, Porter has averaged 15.8 points, 12.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 blocks per.

Porter said he will be joining the team immediately.
