Jerry Meyer Makes Bold Predictions on Marvin Bagley III, Bol Bol

After finishing first or second in the CrystalBall Championship over the last three years and holding the top spot in the 2017 CrystalBall Championship, 247Sports National Director of Basketball Jerry Meyer is perhaps the best at predicting where a high school player will go to college.

The CrystalBall is a great product for documenting the historic public perception of a recruitment. Individual predictors get some right and some wrong. Experts who are considered the best at predicting hover right under the 75% success rate.

With the live period getting underway on Thursday, Meyer has made some bold predictions in the last couple days.

Meyer’s most recent prediction came on Thursday, predicting that 247Sports’ No. 1 overall player Marvin Bagley III will choose the USC Trojans.

Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald reported Thursday that Bagley plans to take official visits to Duke, Arizona, and USC first and Kentucky later on, Meyer predicted that Bagley, like Bol, would end up at USC.

The Crystal Ball is currently split on Bagley, with 45 percent of experts predicting Kentucky to land the 6-foot-10 power forward, 36 percent to Duke and now 18 percent to USC.

Bagley has an official to Duke planned for later this month (July 21-23) and is likely to choose a school before the start of his senior year. Meyer’s prediction for Bagley came just a day after he made a prediction on another top five prospect in 2018.

On Wednesday, Meyer raised eyebrows when he predicted that 247Sport’s No. 4 overall player in the Class of 2018, Bol Bol would choose USC.

“I’m going to probably start taking visits after Peach Jam,” Bol told FanRag Sports, adding that he plans to visit Arizona, Kentucky, and Oregon. “I haven’t set up the rest of my visits yet. I think I’ll take at least three [visits], I don’t know about five.”

According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, USC still only holds a 12 percent chance of landing the 7-foot-2 big man but Meyer’s prediction shouldn’t be overlooked.

A few minutes after predicting Bol to USC, Meyer raised eyebrows again, predicting that Simi Shittu, the 6-foot-10 power forward from Vermont (VT) Academy, would choose Oregon.

In three Crystal Ball predictions, experts are split on Shittu. Aside from Meyer, one expert believes Shittu will choose Syracuse, while another has predicted UConn.

Shittu also received an offer from Arizona earlier this week (July 12) following a dominant performance at Peach Jam. He is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 8 overall player in the Class of 2018.

The first of Meyer’s string of predictions came Wednesday when he predicted that former Arkansas commit Reggie Perry would land to the Florida State Seminoles.

Perry decommitted from Arkansas earlier this month and is expected to announce a narrowed list later this week. Georgia and Kansas were the 1st to contact after he decommitted from Arkansas.

Meyer’s Florida State prediction is only the second prediction on Perry and the first since he announced his decommitment.
