Illinois Transfer Jalen Coleman-Lands to Depaul

Jalen Coleman-Lands, the 6-foot-3 guard from the University of Illinois, will transfer to DePaul, Scout.com reported on Sunday.

“Honestly I feel like this is the school that allowed me to maximize my potential goal as a player and my major,” Coleman-Lands told Scout. “I can maximize my potential on and off the court.”

Coleman-Lands chose Illinois over Gonzaga and Xavier. He took visits to all three schools involved. New DePaul assistant coach Shane Heirman coached Coleman-Lands in high school at La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere.

“That’s definitely an important factor being that he coached me on a basketball level,” Coleman-Lands said. “Having that player-coach relationship, to be able to have that asset on the college end I had to take into consideration.”

Coleman-Lands will be forced to sit out next season, before having two years of eligibility remaining. Last year, as a sophomore at Illinois, Coleman-Lands averaged eight points per game.
