Jaemyn Brakefield, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Huntington (WV) Prep, caught up with us at D1Vision to discuss his recruiting trail. Brakefield has taken unofficial visits to Kentucky (twice), Ohio State (twice), and West Virginia.

Brakefield broke down each school.

Kentucky-“Kentucky is Kentucky. Great atmosphere, fans, and school. Kentucky was an amazing experience for me like nothing I’ve seen before.”

Ohio State-“Ohio State also has a great setting. The coaches are very locked in and want the best for you.”

West Virginia-“Love the school. How they play is exciting. They have really good coaches as well.”

According to 247Sports, Brakefield is the No. 2 overall player for the Class of 2020 and the No. 2 power forward. Brakefield told D1Vision that he holds offers from Ole Miss, Houston, Virginia Tech, and Baylor thus far in his recruiting process.

Brakefield only trails Isaiah Todd as the No. 1 overall player for the Class of 2020. When asked about being a top ranked player for his class, “It feels great. It allows me to do things I never thought I’d get to do,” Brakefield said. “With that though comes an amount of pressure that is unexplainable. Anyone who is hyped will be a target. You just have to live up to the hype and keep working.”

Brakefield is coming off an impressive 21 point performance against Hargrave Military (VA) Academy on Thursday. Look for Brakefield to continue to reel in high-major offers as he develops his game.

We at D1Vision recently caught up with Huntington Prep teammates Quinn Slazinski and Marvin Price to discuss their recruiting trails.
