Jacobi Gordon, the 6-foot-6 small forward from Fallbrook College (TX) Preparatory Academy, announced his commitment to California and head coach Wyking Jones on Wednesday via Twitter.

After careful consideration and prayer, I have verbally committed to continue my college education as a student-athlete at the University of California Berkeley,” said Gordon in a statement released on Twitter. “Thanks to all the coaches at Cal for recruiting me and helping me with this process.”

Gordon’s commitment has been largely attributed to new assistant Chris Walker, who has prioritized recruiting the Texas area.

Gordon becomes the first commit in the Golden Bears’ 2018 class. He is ranked by 247Sports as the #135 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the #11 player from the state of Texas. He also held offers from Arkansas, Baylor, DePaul, Georgia Tech, Houston, Iowa State, LSU, Miami, NC State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, SMU, TCU, and Texas A&M, among others.

“A very special thanks to my mom and pops for their sacrifices, unconditional love, support, and guidance,” said Gordon. “Finally, giving thanks to my past and present coaches and trainers that believe in me and have assisted me through this journey, specifically Chris Walker, Coach Golden Corner, Coach Gilbert Good, Coach DeMarcus Peterson, and Brandon Ennis.”

This spring, while playing with Houston (TX) Hoops on the Nike EYBL circuit, Gordon has averaged 11.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 11 games, leading them to a 8-8 record. Gordon received an offer from California last month (Apr. 23).

Gordon will participate in the Nike EYBL Peach Jam later this summer after finishing in the top five of the Division A standings. The Peach Jam will be held July 12-16 at the Riverview Park Activities Center in North Augusta, South Carolina.
