Isaiah Turner, the 6-foot-8 shooting guard from Lincoln (GA) Academy, spoke with D1VISION on Monday to discuss his unofficial visit to Vanderbilt this past weekend (Oct. 21).

“Vanderbilt was awesome. It seems like there is so much to do and the gym is enormous,” said Turner. “I’ve never seen a gym that looks like it has the biggest stage of any place I’ve been to so far. The way they explained it to us, the academics seem fantastic and all the kids seem to really enjoy it, as we were walking around. The coaches are very good. They speak facts and seem like they’ll be really helpful in the long run.”

Although Vanderbilt is yet to land any commits from the 2019 class, they have a 2018 commitment in small forward Aaron Nesmith, who announced his commitment last month.

Turner has also taken unofficial visits to Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, Florida Gulf Coast, and Alabama-Birmingham. Turner broke down each visit for us at D1Vision.

Middle Tennessee State-“Practice was very impressive. They play very aggressively and it seems to help a lot the players as the season is approaching for them. The coaches are good and contact me with a lot of love.”

Georgia Tech-“It is a great school and the campus looked incredible. The gym is very neat and clean. With a packed house, it would look lovely. Coach [Josh] Pastner shows me a lot of love, not only by extending me a scholarship offer, but he always gets in contact with me. He checks up on me and sends me helpful quotes throughout the day.”

Florida Gulf Coast-“The gym is very good to me. It can fill a lot of people because they have a very good fan base. Coach [Michael] Fly touches base with me every day. They extended me the first offer I ever received and have been helpful with giving me words of encouragement ever since then. I haven’t had a chance to look at their school campus yet.”

Alabama-Birmingham-“Their visit was different than the others because it was their team camp that I attended, but the gym that we were in at the school was very good. I was blessed enough to receive an offer from them that day and all of the coaching staff talks to me often as well.

Turner also mentioned Florida, Central Florida, South Carolina, South Florida, and Kansas State, as schools recruiting him hard lately. “Cincinnati and Oregon told me they are stopping by very soon to see me,” said Turner.

According to 247Sports, Turner is ranked as the No. 193 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 31 shooting guard.
