Nate Hinton, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard out of Gastonia (NC) Gaston Day School, announced his commitment to Houston and head coach Kelvin Sampson, via his Twitter account.

“Houston has a beautiful campus,” Hinton told Evan Daniels of Scout. “It was everything the coaches told me. The atmosphere and the culture of the entire school is different. Everyone from the academic advisors, to the athletic director and staff, to the basketball program is all on the same page.”

“There are really trying to build a winning culture on campus,” he added. “They are really making me a serious priority and the relationships with the coaches is great. They included my whole family on the visit and made everyone comfortable.”

“Also with it being a pro city and with the Rockets being so close and the relationship coach [Kelvin] Sampson has with them, they always have pros in the gym playing against and with the guys.”

Hinton chose Houston over Cincinnati and Florida State, among others. Hinton joins Texas based point guard Antoine Davis as the second Houston commit out of the 2018 class.

The three-star guard officially visited Houston in early August. Cincinnati also received an official visit the weekend of September 9th and he was scheduled to visit Florida State this weekend, although that visit was not confirmed.

Playing with Team Loaded NC on the adidas Gauntlet Summer Circuit, Hinton averaged 12.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 26.5 minutes.
