Garrison Brooks, the 6-foot-9 power forward from Auburn (AL) High School, committed to UNC on Friday. He recently received his release from Mississippi State, where his father George Brooks is an assistant coach on coach Ben Howland‘s staff.

Brooks received a visit from North Carolina coaches Roy Williams and Hubert Davis in September before he was officially offered by the school. This season, Brooks averaged 14.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.3 blocks while shooting 63 percent shooting from the field.

With Brooks’ commitment, 247Sports gives UNC the #14 ranked recruiting class in the Class of 2017. He joins Jalek Felton, Brandon Huffman, Andrew Platek, and Sterling Manley as the fifth commit in UNC’s 2017 class.

While UNC loses Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks to graduation and possibly freshman Tony Bradley who is exploring his NBA draft options, Brooks will add depth to UNC inside.
