Duke Misses on Knox, Is Trevon Duval Next to Announce

Five-star unsigned IMG Academy (FL) point guard Trevon Duval is expected to announce his college decision during the “next week or so,” according to a report by the Bradenton Herald.

“I’ve just been enjoying it, having fun, soaking it all in because I’m not going to go through this all again,” Duval said. “I’m just trying to make the best of it.”

Duval is considering five schools: Duke, Kansas, Baylor, Seton Hall and Arizona. He has officially visited all five.

Duke is again the heavy favorite to land the nation’s top point guard, garnering every positive vote available on the current 247Sports CrystalBall.

Saturday, one of Duke’s top targets sent shock waves through the recruiting world when Kevin Knox picked Kentucky over the favored Blue Devils.

Veteran scout Evan Daniels noted just how big it was.

“I’m rarely shocked by a college commitment. I’m very surprised by Kevin Knox’s,” tweeted Daniels.

All would be forgotten in Durham with the commitment of Duval. The Blue Devils are in need of a solid point guard, and Duval fits that bill.

Duke’s roster has been decimated by the draft, loss of eligibility and transfers.

Jayson Tatum, Harry Giles, Luke Kennard and potentially Frank Jackson are headed to the NBA draft.

Matt Jones, Amile Jefferson and Nick Pagliuca have all ran out of eligibility and Sean Obi and Chase Jeter decided to transfer. Leaving Duke with at most seven or eight returning players, depending on Frank Jackson’s decision.

As of now, Grayson Allen would be the only returning player who logged any significant minutes last season.

The Blue Devils 2017 recruiting class currently has four commits. Five-stars Wendell Carter and Gary Trent Jr, four-star Alex O’Connell and three-star Jordan Goldwire.

Duke is also in pursuit of five-star forward Mo Bamba. Bamba is a true 7’0″ that possesses a freakish 7’9.5″ wingspan and a 9’6″ standing reach.

Bamba is a defensive presence with an ability to guard the rim that would make it tough for any opponent to score in close. Kentucky is the current leader on his 247Sports CrystalBall.

One other potential option for Coach K and Duke is to reach out to uncommitted four-star wing Jordan Tucker. Some speculated that if Knox didn’t choose Duke, Krzyzewski might attempt to get involved with Tucker as a potential replacement.

With the need for a high level point guard, Duval would run the program at Duke next season. Whether Blue Devil Blue will be his choice is still to be seen, but it appears we are just around the corner from a decision.
