DJ Jeffries, the 6-foot-7 small forward from Olive Branch (MS) High School, took an unofficial to Kentucky last weekend (Oct. 14) for Big Blue Madness. He spoke with D1VISION on Tuesday about his visit.

“What appealed to me most was how much their fans care about the team,” said Jeffries about Kentucky. “I also liked how everybody on the team and staff is a family.”

Kentucky also hosted 2018 recruits Zion Williamson, Darius Garland, and Bol Bol, 2019 prospects James WisemanTyrese MaxeyKeion Brooks, 2020 prospects Jalen Johnson and Jaemyn Brakefield, and 2021 prospect Zion Harmon. Kentucky commit Immanuel Quickley also visited for Big Blue Madness.

“They said that there are really no positions as long as you can play and do the basic stuff,” said Jeffries. If you know how to play with other good players then you’ll be able to fit in the system.”

Kentucky first extended an offer to Jeffries last month (Sept. 14). 2019 prospects with a Kentucky offer include James Wiseman, Tyrese Maxey, and Keion Brooks, who also visited for Big Blue Madness, and Scottie Lewis, Bryan Antoine, and Vernon Carey.

According to 247Sports, Jeffries is ranked as the No. 15 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi. In addition to his Kentucky visit, Jeffries will also be taking a visit to Ole Miss this upcoming weekend (Oct. 21).

“They were the first school to go after me,” said Jeffries on Ole Miss  “I’ve always had a good relationship with them and they have a good relationship with my family, so that’s what appeals to me the most.”

Jeffries also mentioned that he plans on visiting LSU and Alabama soon. He broke down each school for D1VISION.

“With LSU, it’s pretty much the same thing as Ole Miss. I’m still building a relationship with them,” said Jeffries.

He went into a little more detail in speaking about Alabama, as he said, “My family and I like Alabama because family is a big thing to us, so we have built a good relationship with them. We’ve got a good relationship their staff and I think they’ll be a top program in the upcoming years.”
