Darius Garland Picks Up Third Big 12 Offer

Five-star 2018 Brentwood (TN) Brentwood Academy point guard Darius Garland announced his third offer from the Big 12 via his twitter account on Wednesday, this one from the Kansas Jayhawks and head coach Bill Self.

“It means a lot getting a KU offer,” Garland told D1Vision. “It has a lot of history and the fan base is really huge in Lawrence. Hopefully, I can get down to the campus and get down to a game so I can feel the atmosphere in the historic gym. I’m really excited about the offer and hopefully get to grow a really good relationship with the Coaching staff.”

Garland now holds offers from 22 Division 1 schools including powerhouses Duke, Indiana, Louisville, Virginia, UCLA and the other two Big 12 schools of Baylor and Iowa State.

Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes was also on hand on Wednesday to see Garland. The five-star currently holds an offer from the Volunteers as well as Missouri, Auburn, Florida, and Vanderbilt out of the SEC. Kentucky head coach John Calipari has visited with Garland but has yet to extend an offer to the multi-talented point guard.

Garland is widely considered one of the top two point guards in the 2018 class, flip-flopping between himself and Bel Air (MD) John Carroll School five-star Immanuel Quickley, depending on the scouting outlet. The 247Sports Composite Player Rankings has Garland as the top point guard in the class and the overall number 7 ranked player in the class of 2018.

In January, Garland told Scout he would like to make his decision “soon.” Asked what “soon” meant, Garland said, “I don’t know yet.”

Whenever soon is may not be soon enough for some of the top programs in the country. Expect his recruitment to continue to heat up as the Summer circuit gets into full swing.
