Darius McNeill Commit

Darius McNeill, the 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Westfield (TX) High School, announced his commitment to California on Thursday via Twitter. McNeill was released from his NLI with Iowa State earlier this month (June 15).

“I have faith that I have made the correct decision about the college I will be continuing my academic and basketball career,” said McNeill in a statement released via Twitter. “I have decided to sign with the University of California Berkeley.”

McNeill joins Grant Anticevich, Austin McCullough, Justice Sueing, Juhwan Harris-Dyson, Trevin Knell, Deschon Winston, and Alec Hickman as the eighth commit in Cal’s 2017 class.

According to 247Sports, McNeill is ranked as the No. 223 player in the Class of 2017 and the No. 20 player in the state of Texas. McNeill gives Cal the No. 52 ranked recruiting class in 2017. McNeill’s travel ball teammate, Jacobi Gordon, committed to California last month.

The commitments of Gordon and McNeill has been largely attributed to new assistant Chris Walker, who has prioritized recruiting the Texas area. McNeill also held offers from schools such as Iowa State, Baylor, LSU, NC State, Rhode Island, SMU, TCU, Tulsa, and Texas Tech, among others.
