Brian Bowen, the 6-foot-7 small forward from La Lumiere (IN) School, told ZagsBlog Tuesday that he “definitely” wants to make his college decision in April. He is currently considering Michigan State, Arizona, Texas, Creighton, and NC State. He broke down all five schools for D1Vision:

Michigan State: “They’ve been recruiting me for a very long time. I really enjoy them. They have a great coaching staff. [Tom] Izzo is a great guy. They have some great recruits coming in as well, so it would be a big time program.”

Arizona: “Coach [Sean] Miller is a great guy as well. They have a great coaching staff. Their pitch is really about the wing guys going there. Big Time Program.

Texas: “They have a couple guys that I’ve played with before. Coach Shaka [Smart] is a great guy and I even enjoyed my visit there.”

Creighton: “They have a guy on my team that’s committed there [Jacob Epperson]. They’ve been talking to me a lot.”

NC State: “I haven’t really talked to them a lot because Coach [Mark] Gottfried got fired but I’ve talked to them a little bit. They’re still interesting to me, so we’ll go from there.”

Following Gottfried’s firing, Bowen says that he hasn’t me with NC State’s new head coach Kevin Keatts but he has spoken with assistant coaches. “We’ll see where it goes,” said Bowen. “[We’ll see] if they’re still interested or not.”

Bowen, who goes by the nickname “Tugs” says his nickname originated from a young age: “When I was born, the doctor pulled on my hair and said it was like a ‘tugboat’. My parents started to call me ‘Tugs’ and it stuck with me ever since.”
