Arizona Sophomore Rawle Alkins Out 8 to 12 Weeks With Injury

Arizona sophomore guard Rawle Alkins will be out eight to 12 weeks following successful surgery to repair a broken foot, according to a report from the Arizona Daily Star. That report was later confirmed on Alkins Twitter account.

As a freshman, Alkins averaged 10.9 points per game to go with 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.9 steals per. Alkins played in all 37 games, helping to lead the Wildcats to a 32-5 record. Alkins is projected as the 49th overall pick in the latest ESPN 2018 NBA Mock Draft.

Arizona opens the season Nov. 10 at home against Northern Arizona. The Wildcats open Pac-12 play on Dec. 30 against Arizona State. Although unclear of when Alkins will return, eight weeks from today would place him available sometime in late November.

Arizona has been ranked preseason No. 1 in several early polls, although the ramifications of the latest FBI probe could put a damper on the seasons outcome.

The Wildcats finished the 2017 recruiting year with the third ranked class in the 247Sports Composite Class Rankings. DeAndre Ayton highlights a class that also includes five-star Emmanuel Akot and four-stars Brandon Randolph, Ira Lee and Alex Barcello. Only Kentucky and Duke are above Arizona in the final 247Sports Rankings.
