Alabama Lands 2018 Guard Diante Wood

With the Early Signing Period starting on Wednesday, Alabama has gotten off to a great start, landing 6-foot-4 shooting guard, Diante Wood, who announced his commitment on Wednesday in a video released via Twitter.

“Basketball is my life. All the hard work put in through the years and now the moment is here. All the workouts, studying, late nights, early mornings, the accomplishments, and the let downs have prepared me for this moment,” said Wood in the video. “Thanks to all the coaches and universities that recruited me. It’s an honor to be recruited by all of you, but I can only choose one. I’m going somewhere I can be challenged as a leader, challenged as a student, as a player, and most importantly as a man. To my family and friends, thank you, for now, all I can say is buckle up.”

Wood, who attends Sacred Heart (AL) Catholic School, took his second and final official visit to Alabama last month (Oct. 13) for the Arkansas vs. Alabama football game. He chose Alabama over his final four of Auburn, Colorado State, and USF, taking his first official visit to USF earlier this year (Sept. 29).

According to 247Sports, Wood is ranked as the No. 226 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 6 player from the state of Alabama. He joins Jared Butler and Javian Fleming as the third commit in the Crimson Tide’s 2018 class. The addition of Wood gives the Tide the No. 33 class in the nation, per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Wood made his commitment official on Wednesday, signing his National Letter of Intent at his high school. Butler is also expected to sign Wednesday, with Fleming signing either Wednesday or Thursday.
