Diante Smith, a 6-foot-5 wing out of Fort Walton Beach (FL) Choctawhatchee High, received an offer from Miami (FL). He spoke with D1Vision about his thoughts on the offer.

“When I got the Miami offer, I was in class just getting done with my work,” Smith said. “(1Family Hoops coaches) Brad (Augustine) and Daryl (Hardin) texted me saying congratulations. I didn’t know what happened and then said I received an offer from Miami (FL). I didn’t know what to do, my heart started beating fast, I was just happy and surprised.”

It seems it was more of a surprise for Smith than anyone else.

“Actually I haven’t talked to the staff yet, but my AAU coach has told me in the past that they want me to come visit their campus,” Smith stated. “It’s just in talks, but I’d like to go down there on a break to see them play. I’ve seen them at a couple of our games, but never really knew they were recruiting me.”

Smith’s recruiting interest doesn’t stop there, “I have offers from St. John’s, Florida International, Florida Gulf Coast, Southeastern Louisiana, Alabama-Birmingham, and South Alabama.”

Smith went on discuss how he feels about the St. John’s, Florida Gulf Coast, Alabama-Birmingham, and South Alabama programs.

“I talk to them and love the energy they have,” Smith said. “I enjoy how they reach out to me on a daily basis.”

St John’s – “I like their style of play and coach (Dan) Matic, but they’re far from home.”

Florida Gulf Coast – “I like how coach (Michael) Fly is always in contact with me, but I never really watched a game besides the conference championship against North Florida last year.”

Alabama-Birmingham – “I went to their team camp and looked around their basketball facility and loved it along with the coaches. Head coach (Robert) Ehsan and I always talk.”

South Alabama-“I went to their team camp and like the arena, but I haven’t really watched them play yet.”

Smith who plays his AAU basketball with 1Family Hoops (FL) will have the opportunity to expand his exposure on the adidas Circuit stage again next Summer. Last season as a sophomore at Choctawhatchee High, Smith averaged 14.6 points per game.
