2018 Four-Star David Duke Commits to Providence

David Duke, the 6-foot-4 combo guard from Cushing (RI) Academy announced his commitment to Providence on Friday via his Twitter account.

“The big question is where and to understand my choice, you need to hear my why. Growing up in my hometown, it is easy to get distracted from what matters the most. Fortunately for me, my parents have kept me on the right track and reminded me that in order to be successful you’ve got to stay focused and strive to be the best at everything you do. I am blessed to have many colleges with very prestigious basketball histories recruit me over this long journey. Everyone of my final schools gives me a great shot at my biggest goal, but I can only choose one. So why not do it right here where the people who love me the most can witness.”

According to 247Sports, Duke is ranked as the No. 48 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 combo guard from the state of Rhode Island. He joins four-star shooting guard A.J. Reeves, three-star forward Jimmy Nichols, and three-star forward Kris Monroe for the Providence Class of 2018. With the commitment of Duke, it gives Providence the best 2018 recruiting class in the Big East.

The commitment to Providence comes to no surprise as they gained serious momentum with Duke after his official visit on campus with the Friars on October 6th. Duke was originally had an official visit scheduled with Villanova, but cancelled the visit and went to Providence instead.

Duke chose Providence over schools such as Florida, Indiana, Villanova, and Virginia Tech. He announced his final five schools via Twitter on August 14th. It ultimately came down to Virginia Tech and Providence as his finalists.

Duke is the No. 5 combo guard in the nation, per 247Sports.
